Picosecond, Picosure & Picoway Laser machines are remarkably innovative, 3 wave laser system’s and are amongst the most trusted Laser systems in the Aesthetics industry. The unique mode of action is based on delivering ultra-short bursts of energy, creating a photo acoustic impact breaking up pigments into tiny pieces. Picosecond Lasers are good for multicoloured, recalcitrant tattoos and treatment of skin irregularities. These Lasers also reduce the number of treatments needed to fully remove unwanted tattoos/pigments because ink is shattered into tiny particles enabling the body to remove them quicker. Scientists have acknowledged that the shorter the pulse duration the more efficient the removal and recovery is.
ND-YAG Q-switched produces two wavelengths to treat superficial skin lesions. Q-switch refers to the technique of making the laser produce a high beam in very short pulses –apart from Picosecond Laser other machines without the Q-Switched function cannot provide the desired result as they are not powerful enough to shatter the tattoo. When the ND YAG Q-switched laser comes into contact with a tattoo, the laser light is absorbed by the tattoo ink, creating a photo acoustic shockwave that releases the heat from the tattoo and shatters it into minute particles. This is known as photo mechanical / photoacoustic effect. The particles are then carried away by the macrophages and leave the body through the lymphatic system. Although the Picosecond Lasers have a shorter pulse duration than the ND-YAG Q-Switched these lasers are still very good at removing certain types of pigmentation and may still be a preferred choice by an experienced technician.
Body Perfection treats multiple types of tattoos including professional and amateur tattoos in black or colour, as well as semi-permanent eye make-up.

Picosecond Lasers are replacing ND-YAG Q Switched Laser's for pigmentation removal due to more efficient removal and quicker recovery times. This is due to the shorter pulse duration causing a more photoacoustic effect which shatters pigment's into smaller pieces. However some pigments still respond really well to the ND-YAG Q-Switched Laser's, this is why some professionals still use both technologies to remove differing types of pigmentation. The most important factor in deciding which technology is best for you is best decided with a experienced laser technician.
