Neck lines tend to appear as horizontal lines along your neck. They are a common part of the natural ageing process and are usually defined by wrinkles and sagging of the skin due to a loss of elasticity.

What Causes

Neck Lines

Neck lines are commonly caused by ageing, genetic inheritance, hormonal changes, sun damage, obesity, alcohol and smoking. They can also be caused by keeping your head in the same position over long periods of time, such as when you're asleep or when working at a computer.

Prevention of

Neck Lines

The neck is often one of the most exposed areas of the body and therefore it's important to protect it against damage. There are some steps you can take to reduce your chances of developing neck lines, which can also help to ease any discomfort from the lines you already have, including:

  • Using a good skincare regime consultation and creams available in clinic
  • Wearing SPF sunscreen of 30 or higher when you're outdoors, whether in the sun or not, as UVA light levels can cause damage throughout the year. Reapply every two hours if you're swimming or perspiring.
  • Exercising your neck daily to tighten muscles and pull in sagging skin.
  • Use moisturizers with built-in SPF - though moisturizers can't prevent wrinkles, they may temporarily mask tiny lines and creases.
  • Eat a low-salt diet rich in high-fibre foods.
  • Avoid smoking.
