Crows feet are wrinkles and lines that can be seen at the corner at the eyes. Lines in this area can appear to look deeper in appearance compared to lines in other areas of the face. Crow’s feet can occur at any age but are a common complaint from the mid 20s onwards.
During the natural ageing process, there's a decrease in collagen and elastin production, which are both vital to maintaining smooth and supple skin. If there is a lack of both, the skin loses its strength and elasticity resulting in lines and wrinkles.
Constant daily muscle movement in the area (smiling and squinting) can also cause Crows Feet, as the skin around the eye area is the thinnest compared to the rest of the face. When elasticity diminishes, the skin is unable to bounce back, which results in this area being the first to develop lines.
Daily UV exposure (UVA) also penetrates into the dermis where it will then damage collagen fibres. If exposure happens daily without suitable protection, lines can form much more quickly.
