Wart Removal

What are Wart’s?

Warts are raised bumps on your skin, they generally aren’t dangerous but can be painful.

Types of Warts include:

• Common Warts-usually grow on your fingers and toes but can appear elsewhere. They have a rough grainy appearance with a rounded top and are greyer than the surrounding skin.

• Plantar Warts-grow on the soles of the feet. Unlike other warts, they grow into your skin instead of out of it.

• Flat Warts-usually grow on the face, thighs or arms. They are only small so not immediately noticeable. They can be pink, brownish or slightly yellow and appear flat as if they’ve scraped.

• Filiform Warts-grow around your mouth or nose and sometimes on your neck and under your chin. They are small, skin coloured and shaped like a tiny flap/tag of skin.

• Periungual Warts-grow under and around the toenails and fingernails. They can affect the nail and can be painful.

What causes Wart’s?

Warts are caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV). The virus causes skin cells in the affected area to produce excess keratin (a skin protein).

Preventative Actions

You can prevent warts and keep them from spreading by washing your hands regularly (especially if you come onto contact with someone with warts), don’t pick at warts, cover warts with a bandage, make sure you thoroughly dry your hands and feet and wear shower shoes such as flip flops when in public places such as a locker room or communal bathing facilities.

Mole Removal

What are Moles?

Moles are small, coloured spots which form on the skin. They may appear flat or raised, feel smooth or rough and some may even have hair growing out of them. Most people have them and they are usually nothing to worry about unless they change shape, size or colour.

What causes Moles?

Moles occur when cells in the skin form in clusters instead of being spread throughout the skin. These cells are called ‘melanocytes’, and they make the pigment that gives skin its natural colour.

Preventative Actions

Ask for Screencancer Consultation with Dermatoligist Report (at Body Perfection) if

• changes shape or looks uneven
• changes colour, gets darker or has more than 2 colours
• starts itching, crusting, flaking or bleeding
• gets larger or more raised from the skin

These changes can happen over weeks or months. They’re sometimes a sign of melanoma, a type of skin cancer.

Skin Tag Removal

What are skin tags?

Skin tags are usually flesh coloured or may appear brown if you have light skin and are usually only a few millimetres in size. They hang from the surface of your skin by a small, thin stalk called a peduncle. They are common in both men and women, especially over the age of 50. They can be found anywhere on the body although are commonly found in places where the skin folds, such as armpits, groin, neck etc.
They are made of loose collagen fibres and blood vessels surrounded by skin. They are completely harmless and do not usually cause any pain or discomfort, however, depending where they are on your body, they can snag on clothing or jewellery and bleed as a result.

What causes skin tags?

It’s unclear exactly what causes skin tags but as they usually show up in skin folds, friction may play a role. Other common causes can include genetics, insulin resistance or type 2 diabetes, obesity and pregnancy.

Preventative Actions

You can minimise developing skin tags by losing weight, avoiding eating saturated fats and sugars and avoiding wearing tight clothing.

Verruca Removal

What are Verruca’s?

Verruca’s are small oval shaped growths, white in colour, often with a black dot in the middle. They will be rough and flat with an irregular surface and can vary in diameter from 1mm to 1cm. They are usually found on the feet and can also be referred to as plantar warts. Most people will get one at some point in their life and they usually go away on their own but may take months or even years.

What causes Verruca’s?

Verruca’s are caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV). The virus causes skin cells in the affected area to produce excess keratin (a skin protein) this then results in the hard bump being formed.

Preventative Actions

Verruca’s are highly contagious so if you do have one it is best to treat it as soon as possible to avoid it spreading.
Verruca’s are easily contracted to healthy skin from direct contact. They can also develop through contact with items that have been touched by the affected skin such as towels, shoes and socks.
